A New Beginning for Felix

Felix’s story found its way to us at a time when we were still holding a lot of loss.

After saying goodbye to Wren and Jane last year, the herd has felt different. There’s been a shift here, one you can feel in the barns and out in the fields.

Through it all, Mukta has been doing incredibly well, slowly finding his place among the others. And for the first time in a while, we found ourselves with a little bit of space in the big pig herd.

That timing matters more than people realize.

Because of our climate, if we’re going to bring in a younger pig, it has to be this time of year, so they have the chance to adjust, grow, and settle in before winter arrives. It’s a small window, and one we don’t take lightly.

We saw a post shared by both Sisu and Blindspot Animal Sanctuary.

A pig, running loose, alone, being posted on social media as a stray in need of a home.

A family took him in and for a moment, it seemed like his story might turn around. But not long after, they purchased two piglets from a breeder to be his companions… and then made the decision that they no longer wanted Felix.

Sisu and Blindspot were contacted for help. And somehow, everything aligned.

Pilots to the Rescue was already in motion, on their way back from a transport in Florida, and were able to make a stop in North Carolina. At the same time, we had the space, the timing, and the ability to say yes.

So we did.

Felix is here now. Safe. No longer an afterthought. No longer temporary.

He arrived just yesterday and is beginning the process of settling in, learning the rhythms of sanctuary life, the comfort of routine, and what it feels like to truly belong.

Moments like this don’t happen by accident. They happen because of this community, because of people who show up, who share, who transport, who say yes when it matters most.

This is how rescue works. And this is just the beginning of Felix’s story.
