Stanley is at Cornell tonight

This morning, when we went to give Stanley breakfast, it was immediately clear that something was wrong. He was struggling to walk and was in a significant amount of pain. The change in his behavior was such a stark contrast to the Stanley we know that it was incredibly concerning.

We didn't hesitate, he was loaded into the van and we headed straight to Cornell.

Stanley has already been through so much. For the first six years of his life, he was denied many of the most basic things any living being should have. Like proper nutrition, movement, stimulation, cleanliness, care, and the ability to experience the world around him. By the time he came to Arthur’s Acres, years of neglect had taken a very real toll on his body and since his arrival, we’ve worked to give him the life he should have had all along.

That history is also why we don’t want to take any chances now.

Because of the severity and suddenness of his symptoms, we chose to move straight to more advanced diagnostics rather than spend valuable time working through possibilities one by one.

Tonight Stanley is having a CT scan so we can better understand what’s causing his pain and sudden difficulty walking. We’re hoping it gives us the answers we need to determine the best path forward.

This is Stanley’s first time at Cornell since coming to Arthur’s Acres, so we’re also using the opportunity to give him a complete workup, including a full blood panel and thorough examination.

We were also able to get an updated weight for Stanley today. He’s down to 204 pounds, which is wonderful progress from the roughly 250+ pounds he weighed when he first came to us.

Stanley spent far too many years without the care he deserved. From the moment he came to Arthur’s Acres, we made a promise to do everything we could to give him the very best care possible.

Tonight, that means getting answers for our sweet boy.
